Description	:	Arlie Jean Vander Hoek was born on May 11, 1941, at Fairmount, Iowa. He was the youngest of four children that were born to Arie and Christina (Vanden Heuvel) Vander Hoek. He graduated from Monroe High School at Monroe, Iowa with the Class of 1959. In August of 1959, Hoekie, as he was known, began working at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella, Iowa. Read More	Arlie Jean Vander Hoek was born on May 11, 1941, at Fairmount, Iowa. He was the youngest of four children that were born to Arie and Christina (Vanden Heuvel) Vander Hoek. He graduated from Monroe High School at Monroe, Iowa with the Class of 1959. In August of 1959, Hoekie, as he was known, began working at Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella, Iowa. This begin a career that lasted for 38 years. On April 27, 1962, he was united in marriage with Mary Jane Klein, a daughter of Vernon and Mary (Turner) Klein, at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City, Iowa. They began their married life in Pella and were blessed with two sons: Michael Shane who was born on December 4, 1965 and Joel Scott who was born on May 30, 1968. Hoek retired from Vermeer Manufacturing Company as Vice President of Manufacturing in 1997. Hoekie loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his family and friends. Hunting with his sons, Joel and Mike, and doing fish fries for everyone, were joys of his. He had many fond memories of his fishing and hunting trips and loved to show everyone the mounts from his adventures. He was a fan of NASCAR, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. After he retired, Hoekie built his cabin, Tahoe East, at the quarry north of New Sharon, Iowa. This was his favorite getaway. While at the cabin he enjoyed spending time reading and studying the Bible and of course fishing. Hoekie loved God, his family and friends. On Saturday morning, April 10, 2010, he passed away at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella at the age of 68 years. His memory is shared by his wife, Janie Vander Hoek; a son, Mike and his wife, Kristy Vander Hoek of Pella; and five grandchildren: Michael Vander Hoek, Ashley Vander Hoek, Jake Vander Hoek, Zak Vander Hoek and Karly Gates. Hoekie is also survived by his brother, William Vander Hoek and his wife, Mildred of Monroe, Iowa; his two sisters: Luella and her husband, Wilbur Van Ryswyk, Pat and her husband, Dr. Kenneth Van Wyk of Pella; and two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bob and Bert Klein of Hastings, Minnesota, Judy (Klein) and Carl Wilson of Monroe. On June 28, 2001, Hoekie and Janie lost their youngest son, Joel, at the age of 33 years and he was also preceded in death by his parents, Arie and Christina Vander Hoek and his parents-in-law, Vernon and Mary Klein.
