Arlie Junior Meyers, age 80 of rural Davis City, Iowa, son of Arlie Jeswick Meyers and Bertha Elizabeth Myers Meyers, was born June 9, 1927 in Mingo, Iowa and died May 18, 2008 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. Junior grew up in rural Mingo and attended school at Farrar. He married Shirley Mae Elizabeth Britt on July 6, 1948 in Colfax, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Jerry, Joyce, Susan, and Lori. Junior farmed in the Colfax area until moving with his family to their farm near Pleasanton, Iowa. Junior worked as a mechanic for Ford Tractor in Leon. He was then a bus driver for the Leon Schools in the late 1960's. From 1971 until his retirement in 2003, Junior served 32 years as the Transportation Director for Central Decatur Community Schools. Junior was very dedicated to the children and families he served during those years, in his quiet and helpful way. Through the years, Junior enjoyed his time helping son Jerry farm. In earlier years, Junior liked hunting and fishing. In the late 1970's and early 1980's, Junior pastored Faith Baptist Church. Junior was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Floris and Russell Meyers; and sisters: Dorothy Shuey, Neva Hanawalt, and Ruth Miller. Junior's wife of nearly 60 years, Shirley Meyers, preceded Junior in death by only a few weeks, on April 29, 2008. Surviving are his children: Jerry Meyers and friend Joy Wallace, both of Davis City, Joyce Meyers of Davis City, Susan Halverson and husband Mike of Chilhowie, Virginia, and Lori Foreman and fiance Randy Proksel of Bellevue, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren: Drew and wife Sarah, Eric, and Amanda Halverson, and Alex and Nate Foreman; brother Dale Meyers and wife Edith of Moore, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
