She was born January 21, 1927 of Cullison, Pratt Co., KS, the daughter of Forrest Ross and Orra Margaret Covey Grossman. She lived in Richmond, VA for 15 years before returning to Kansas. Read More	Arluvene Bernice Grossman Thompson, 88, of Holton, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 in a Topeka Hospital. She was born January 21, 1927 of Cullison, Pratt Co., KS, the daughter of Forrest Ross and Orra Margaret Covey Grossman. She lived in Richmond, VA for 15 years before returning to Kansas. She moved to Holton in 1974. Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Washington University, St. Louis and Emporia State University. She was an Occupational Therapist in St. Louis, MO and Richmond, VA and a School Librarian in Concordia and Holton High Schools. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Jackson County Retired Teachers Association, Kansas Association of School Librarians, Life member of the National Education Association, and a past member of the Beck-Bookman Board of Trustees. She volunteered for the Nature Conservancy, Beck-Bookman Library, and was active in Saint Dominic Catholic Church as a teacher, cantor, liturgist, and organist. She married James Disney Thompson, Sr. on April 2, 1951 in St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death on July 10, 1965 by her husband and daughter, Barbara Marie Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Barbara Louise Grossman Crouse and Rachel Irene Grossman McCormick. Survivors include six sons, James, John, Charles, Mark, Brian, Alan, one daughter, Marguerite Ann Thompson (Donald Parmentier), six grandchildren and four nieces and two nephews. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home on Thursday, September 24, with a closed casket visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m., and a Rosary and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Public Libraries (Beck-Bookman or your favorite library), and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, 66436.
