Description	:	Arlynn Lucille Martin was born to Sarah Ellen and Oren Robert Martin in Pierre S.D. on April 27, 1913. Arlynn attended church with her beloved mother and came to know the Lord at an early age. She graduated from Pierre High School in June of 1932. Arlynn married Melvin L. Read More	Arlynn Lucille Martin was born to Sarah Ellen and Oren Robert Martin in Pierre S.D. on April 27, 1913. Arlynn attended church with her beloved mother and came to know the Lord at an early age. She graduated from Pierre High School in June of 1932. Arlynn married Melvin L. Oldfather on July 27, 1937 in a double wedding ceremony with her double cousin Anna Helen in Pierre, S.D. They made their first home in Iowa City where Melvin attended the University of Iowa, and there he received his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering. During these years Arlynn worked for a catering service and did housekeeping. Arlynn and Melvin then moved to Long Beach, Calif. where Melvin worked for Shell Oil making airplane fuel during WWII. Arlynn worked in a children's clothing store until they adopted two babies. The first was Robert Wallace Oldfather and then Joanne Lee Oldfather. The family moved to Prosser in 1948 when Melvin started his career at General Electric on the Hanford Reservation by the Tri-Cities. Later the family moved to Grandview, where they also owned and operated a small grape ranch, with Melvin continuing his work at Hanford. Arlynn and Melvin became members of the First Baptist in Prosser. They were very active in their church life and made many lifelong friends. They wanted more children and soon adopted eight year old Kathleen Sue Oldfather. David Martin was four when they adopted him soon after. Arlynn loved her role as mother and homemaker and was always so happy to stay at home. She loved dogs and the family had many pets through the years. Melvin passed on March 31, 1970 at the age of 53. Arlynn went on to marry two wonderful men: Bill Baskett of Richland, who passed, and a few years later to Herb Guthrie who also passed. She was a member of Sunset Chapter No 137 Order of Easter Star of Grandview and El Karnak Temple No 6 Daughters of the Nile of Richland. Arlynn went to live with her daughter, Joanne, in McMinnville, Ore. at the age of 83. She enjoyed meeting with the older ladies of their church and loved the beautiful green color and bright flowers of western Oregon. Arlynn had been living at Hermiston Terrace, in Hermiston, Ore., a wonderfully caring assisted living facility, for the last eight years. She and Joanne spent many happy hours together. She enjoyed visits from her friends and family there and especially her children and grandchildren. Arlynn passed on May 4, 2011 with her family at her side. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, her son Wally and her granddaughter Barbara. She is survived by her daughters Joanne Hancock, of Hermiston, OR, Kathleen Beeman (Wayne) of Mabton and her son David Oldfather (Debbie) of Wasilla, Ark. Her grandchildren Jon and Jeremy Hancock, Sarah Leoverton Brandon, Casey, and Katie Beeman, Sharon Salverda , Amie Oldfather , and Neisha Stevens. Twelve great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation was held at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Graveside memorial service was held at the East Prosser Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA.
