Description	:	Minnie Carter Berg was born about 1873 in Wapello County, Iowa; probably in Happy Hollow Coal Mining Camp. She was the daughter of Richard Fayette Carter and Elizabeth Jane (Smiddy) Carter. Her parents both died in 1881 when she was about 8 years old. Minnie married Lewis Berg on May 17, 1890 in Oskaloosa. They were both living in Excelsior at the time of their marriage. Lewis was born in Roskilde, Denmark. They had three children. Her parents both died in 1881 when she was about 8 years old. Minnie married Lewis Berg on May 17, 1890 in Oskaloosa. They were both living in Excelsior at the time of their marriage. Lewis was born in Roskilde, Denmark. They had three children. Andrew(1891), Fred (1893) and Amy (1895). Minnie died of pneumonia at the age of 22 when Amy was 6 months old. They lived in the Coal Mining Town of Carbonado at the time of her death. Lewis and the children left the area. Andrew and Fred were placed in the Soldiers Orphanage near LeClair, Iowa. After they were old enough they were placed in separate foster homes where they worked as farm laborers. Amy was in the care of Minnie's Brother and his wife; John R and Erville Carter. She was adopted at 20 months by William and Sarah Powell. Lewis eventually moved to Brooklyn, New York and died there in 1912. Minnie is buried in the older section of Forest Cemetery. Cemetery Records: Buried Nov 2, 1895 in Section 9 in the NW corner of the cemetery. Cemetery records do not have an exact location. No stone was found. The cemetery board approved setting a memorial stone in the section where Minnie is buried. The stone was set in 2017.
