Description	:	Arnold G. Smith, the son of Grover and Dora (Elliott) Smith, was born on January 26, 1924 on a farm near Republic County, Kansas. He passed away on March 4, 2012 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years, 1 months, 7 days. Arnold attended Lake Country School in Republic County Kansas and Republic High School. Read More	Arnold G. Smith, the son of Grover and Dora (Elliott) Smith, was born on January 26, 1924 on a farm near Republic County, Kansas. He passed away on March 4, 2012 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years, 1 months, 7 days. Arnold attended Lake Country School in Republic County Kansas and Republic High School. He enlisted with the United States Navy on March 4, 1943, serving two years aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in the South Pacific, transporting planes, equipment and Marines to the Pacific Islands; he was honorably discharged as an electrician's mate, Second Class from the USN SV on March 23, 1946. He was united in marriage to Betty Jeppesen on February 16, 1947 at Superior. To this union three children were born. He began farming on his Uncle's ranch on the White Rock Creek near Courtland, Kansas until 1959 when he moved with his family to Superior, Nebraska. He began working at the City of Superior Waste Water treatment plant from 1960 to 1989; serving as plant manager for 15 years. He farmed south of Superior at the same time, retiring from farming when he was 83 years of age in 2007. He attended the Church of Christ andwas a life time member of the VFW and American Legion in Superior. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Velda McCullough and brother-in-law Harold, and sister-in-law Ethlyn Smith. Survivors include his wife Betty of Superior, daughter Linda Combs of Jacksonville, Florida, son James Smith and wife Lorraine and daughter Barbara Thomsen and husband Neil all of Superior, Nebraska; eight grandchildren Amber (Combs) Kenney and husband Dan, Jon Combs, Sandy (Smith) Watkins and husband Lance, Jesse Smith, Mike Smith and wife Kara, Brooke (Thomsen) Coshow and husband Kyle, Kara (Thomsen) Wells and husband Aaron and Andrea Thomsen; seven great grandchildren Tyler Combs, Holly and Mia Watkins, William and Weston Coshow, and Austin and Fallon Wells; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor Jim Stark officiating. Pallbearers were Marlin Smith, Jon Combs, Jesse Smith, Mike Smith, Larry Beavers, and Bill Hamilton. Honorary Pallbearers were Amber Kenney, Sandy Watkins, Brooke Coshow, Kara Wells, and Andrea Thomsen. Interment with Full Military Rites was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to go to the Church of Christ or the VFW. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements.
