He was born on March 10, 1921, to Arno and Frieda (Lierman) Bretschneider at Pierce. He was baptized in Pierce and was confirmed at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk. He attended rural school south of Norfolk. Arnold served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and was stationed in Burma, China. He was born on March 10, 1921, to Arno and Frieda (Lierman) Bretschneider at Pierce. He was baptized in Pierce and was confirmed at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk. He attended rural school south of Norfolk. Arnold served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and was stationed in Burma, China. He was united in marriage on Feb. 6, 1948, to Darlene Reese at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Norfolk. This marriage was blessed with six children. Arnold farmed southeast of Madison for seven years. In 1955, Arnold attended Riesch School of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa. Thus began 50 years plus of auctioneering and operating the Norfolk Auction House with his family. Arnie volunteered 40 years of auctioneering for the Norfolk Chapter Future Farmers of America Alumni Scholarship Auction. A scholarship was established in his name for deserving seniors to further their education. Arnie's love of the farm never left him. In his spare time he raised a variety of produce. Fishing and spending time with family and friends were other favorite pastimes enjoyed by Arnie. Visitation for Arnold H. Bretschneider was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Home for Funerals. Funeral services for Arnold H. Bretschneider were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 19, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery south of Norfolk. The Rev. David Valleskey will officiate. Military rites were conducted by the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard, American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644. Active pallbearers were Bret Rasmussen, Rollie Cederburg, Paul Bretschneider, Matt Scott, Justin Scott, Avery Bretschneider and Brock Bretschneider. Honorary pallbearers were Jennifer and Robb Kuper, Jessica Rasmussen, Amy and Cody Volk, Christina Rasmussen, Kelsey Bretschneider, Rich and Stephanie Scott and Jason and Mandy Scott.
