Lenth, 86, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Garnavillo, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Great River Care Center, McGregor. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien, with the Rev. Joe Irvin officiating. Burial will be in the Garnavillo City Cemetery, Garnavillo. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Garrity Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. He was born on Feb. 22, 1923, in Farmersburg, son of Arno and Minnie (Voelker) Lenth. He attended country school and graduated from Garnavillo High School. He married Marcy Lestina on Nov. 21, 1957, at First Lutheran Church, Waterloo. Arnie farmed in the Garnavillo area from high school until 1988, including 32 years with his brother, Everett. After farming, he worked for the State of Iowa Department of Agriculture as a pesticide investigator, retiring from that position in 1999. He was a lifelong member of the Clayton County Farm Bureau, serving terms as president, vice president and voting delegate. He was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors for 12 years. He was a director of the Allamakee-Clayton REC from 1973 to 1980. Arnie also was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. He served as a Sunday school superintendent for eight years, was a Sunday school teacher for many years and served as congregation chairman. Arnie was quick-witted and possessed a wonderful sense of humor, never missing an opportunity to share his latest joke with a friend. He was a loving and devoted family man and was extremely proud of his daughters and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Marcy, of Prairie du Chien; three daughters, Jane (Dan) Strangstalien, of La Crosse, Janelle (Dean) Konrardy, of Dubuque, and Jolene Lenth, of Madison; three grandchildren, Nathan and Ellyn Konrardy and Alysha Strangstalien; two stepgrandchildren, Jessica and Jason Strangstalien; and a sister, Helen Bischoff, of Garnavillo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jill; a brother, Everett; and two sisters, Lucille Behnken and Evelyn Schulte.
