Schweer, 84, of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly and formerly of Denver, Iowa, died Saturday morning, August 28, 2004, at the Waverly Health Care Center emergency room from an apparent heart attack. Arnold was born on April 27, 1920, in Maxfield Township, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of William ''G.W.'' & Emma (Matthias) Schweer. Schweer, 84, of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly and formerly of Denver, Iowa, died Saturday morning, August 28, 2004, at the Waverly Health Care Center emergency room from an apparent heart attack. Arnold was born on April 27, 1920, in Maxfield Township, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of William ''G.W.'' & Emma (Matthias) Schweer. Arnold was baptized on May 9, 1920 and confirmed in 1934 both at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Klinger. He attended school at the Maxfield Township school #4 and later at the parochial school at Immanuel Lutheran in Klinger. After his schooling, Arnold worked as a hired farmhand for his brothers and area farmers. In late 1941, he moved to California for a short time before moving to Texas in 1942 to work for Lockhead Aircraft. Arnold entered into the U.S. Army in 1944 serving in Europe during WWII. Following his discharge in 1946, Arnold returned to the Readlyn area and went to work for John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo. On January 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Rosinda L. Waschkat at the Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli, Iowa. Arnold quit work at John Deere in 1949 when he began farming fulltime. Arnold retired from farming in 1984 but remained on the farm until 1988 when the couple moved into Denver. On the morning of November 8, 1993, Rosinda died as the result of a motor vehicle accident south of Grinnell. Arnold continued to live in Denver until April of 2002 when he became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. Arnold was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger where he served in numerous church positions and committees. Arnold was a member of the Acker-Matthias American Legion Post #653 in Denver. Arnold is survived by his five children; Allan Schweer and his wife, Eadie of Gainesville, Florida, Jean Schweer of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Romaine Schweer and his wife, Kathy of Denver, Iowa, Julie Canfield and her husband, Mel of Des Moines, Iowa, Loren Schweer of Denver, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Angela, Nathan, Ryan, Kory, Scott, Stephanie, Stacy Jo, Amanda and Emily and two great granddaughters, Alison and Ashley. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Elmer and Martin Schweer and a sister, Hilda in infancy. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger, with Pastor John Wegener officiating and a greeting from Bartels by Pastor Keith Tomlinson. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Acker-Matthias American Legion Post #653 of Denver. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 30th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver. Memorials may be directed to the Allen School of Nursing.
