Arthur Amsden Schoch was born March 22, 1918, to Henry and Jessie (Amsden) Schoch in James. He grew up on a farm near James and attended rural grade school. He graduated from Groton High School in 1936. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Crops (CCC) in the Black Hills. He returned to the Groton-James area, where he farmed. He married Laura Odland on October 7, 1945, in James. They made their first home on a farm. Later they moved to Crosby, Minn., where he owned and operated a dry cleaning business. They moved to Aberdeen in 1961. He worked in several dry cleaning plants in Aberdeen. He started working as a fireman in the heating plant at Northern State College in 1975. He worked there until 1983, when he retired. His wife died in 1980. After his retirement he moved to Sioux Falls. He lived there until ill health forced him to move to White Bear Lake. He is a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen and served as a deacon and as a trustee. Survivors include one son; James (Lori) Schoch of Minneapolis; two daughters, Mary (Russ Myers) Sueltz, Minneapolis and Rebecca Lipp, Sioux Falls; one brother, George Schoch, Bismarck; one sister Margaret Hubbard, Groton, and six grandchildren. Casketbearers were David G. Blackmum, David Blackmun, Dwayne Coon, Tom Culter, Bill Schuelke and Robert Sparks.
