Read More	From the Yakima Herald-Republic: 8 march 2004 Arthur Benzel Merritt Funeral HomeYAKIMA Arthur Benzel, 87, of Yakima, formerly of Wapato died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Yakima Regional Medical Center. Arthur was born January 27, 1917 in New Castle, CO, to Henry and Susanna (Koch) Benzel. The family came to the Wapato area in 1928 where Art was raised and graduated from Wapato High School. Art served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He married Lois Leliefeld in Spokane, WA on Oct. 24, 1946. Art was employed as an equipment operator for Pacific Power and Light Company and an orchardist in the Wapato area for many years until retiring. He was a member of the Russell Barrett American Legion Post #133 of Wapato. Art enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, camping and golfing. Art is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois Benzel of Yakima, WA; sons, Michael (Mary) Benzel of Camas, WA, Richard (Katie) Benzel of Vancouver, WA, Ronald (Molly) Benzel of Spokane, WA; daughter, Kathleen (Pat) Peterson of Federal Way, WA; grandchildren, Jeff, Scott, and Greg Peterson, Erik, Timothy (Tim), Cody, and Natalie Benzel, Brook Benzel Seaberg, Jennifer and Blair Benzel; two great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Kaley. Art was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary, Laura, Pauline, Hilda and one brother, Victor. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2004 in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1707 Third Avenue, Yakima. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004 in Merritt Funeral Home Chapel in Wapato. Military honors will be conducted by the Yakama Warriors in the Reservation Community Memorial Park west of Wapato. If desired, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
