Fast, seventy-five years old, former president of the Farmer's Trust Company bank here, and a former county treasurer, died at 9 o'clock Sunday morning (9 August 1931) at the Huntington county hospital following an illness of a complications of diseases. Mr. Fast, who had been operating a farm in Union township for some time, was taken to the Huntington county hospital last Friday, for observation and treatment. His condition gradually became worse. Mr. Fast was born in Jackson township, Huntington county, to Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Fast on 25 March 1856. In his early years he attended the Huntington county school. Mr. Fast was a teacher in the Jackson township, Huntington county, and Whitley county schools for twenty-five years. He later was elected trustee of Jackson township and in 1908 he was elected county treasurer serving this capacity until 1912. Mr. Fast was elected president of the Farmer's Trust bank, of this city, in which capacity he served for many years. His first marriage was to Kathryn S. Shreve, which took place 25 December 1885. To this union two children were born, Evan Fast, who was killed two years ago when his automobile and an interurban collided near Roanoke, and Mrs. Guy L. Stump, of this city, who survives. Mrs. Fast died 28 May 1925. Mr. Fast's second marriage to Mrs. Florence Young took place 15 December 1928. The widow survives. Four sisters, Mrs. O. J. Laughbaum, of Bucyrus, Ohio, Mrs. Alhle Haley, of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Carrie Olds, of Walla Walla, Washington, and Mrs. Della Haley, of Roanoke, and one brother, Lestor Fast, of Boden, Alberta, Canada, also survives. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First Brethren church at Roanoke. Burial will be at the cemetery at Roanoke.
