Description	:	Arthur D. Farwell enjoyed almost 80 wonderful fulfilling years, passed away Thursday Sept. 22, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Monday Sept. 26th at Ascension Lutheran Church in Goose Lake. Visitation will be held Sunday 4 – 7 pm at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton and Monday 9:30 am until the service hour at the church. Art was born on Oct. 10, 1931 in Jackson County, IA, the son of Ora and Jenny (Sheldon) Farwell. His family lived on farms near Andrew, Delmar, and Goose Lake, where Art attended and graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1950. He married Lois Stolk on Sept. 17, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Art proudly served his country from 1951-1955 at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA as crew chief on the T-29 training planes, flying all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. After being discharged, he farmed in the Teeds Grove area and later at the present farm near Goose Lake. Art also drove truck, hauling livestock for Don Jensen, Don Shockey, and Johnson Brothers. Art had a DX tank wagon route before starting his own trucking business hauling steel, livestock, and grain. He was proud to have both sons and a grandson driving as well. Besides his love of trucking, farming, and family, Art loved to fly. He obtained his own private pilots license in 1977. He owned his own plane and created an airstrip on the farm so he could take off as he wanted to view the crops around the area. He loved to take an occasional passenger with him. Art enjoyed restoring old tractors and driving them in parades and on tractor cruises with Lois, even making a special seat for her to sit in. He enjoyed “tinkering” and created many “inventions” around the farm. He also enjoyed camping even if it was just down the field by Deep Creek. Art was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Goose Lake, where he served as President on the church council; the Miles American Legion; and the Goose Lake Lions Club, serving as President, Treasurer, and many committees, one of which was responsible for the Avenue of Flags at Center Grove, St. Joseph, and St. Mary’s cemeteries. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Genevieve Davis, Lois Farwell, and Arla O’Connor, and a grandson, Cody Farwell.
