Description	:	Arthur Emil Strackbein was born August 2, 1919, in Battle Creek, the son of Arnold and Mary (Jensen) Strackbein. He attended Midway Country School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, on the Island of Attu in the Aleutian Islands, and in Guam and Saipan. He attended Midway Country School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, on the Island of Attu in the Aleutian Islands, and in Guam and Saipan. His awards and decoration include the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, among other awards. He married Gladys Bruene on March 3, 1946, in Cushing, Iowa. The couple farmed near Midway for 40 years and moved into Battle Creek in 1981. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served in various offices, and the Correctionville, Iowa Golf Course. He enjoyed the outdoors and sports. Mr. Strackbein died February 15, 1998, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness at the age of 78 years. Services were held in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Midway, with Rev. Tom Sabel officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery under direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Battle Creek. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Wanda and her husband Ralph Procaccini of Olathe, Kansas, Karen and her husband Stanley Rupiper of Sioux City, Diane Hupke of Battle Creek, Joann and her husband Mark Gries of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Jean Johnson of Ida Grove, Iowa; eight grandchildren; a sister, Alice Albers of Cushing; a brother-in-law, Willard Gebers of Holstein, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bruene of Correctionville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ethel Gebers; and a brother, Edward.
