Dimmitt, 53, of 445 Grandview, Ottumwa cleaner, died Saturday at 4:45 p.m. of a sudden heart attack as he was riding in a car with his wife in the 900 block on West Second Street. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Ottumwa Hospital. Mr. Dimmitt owned and operated Gene Art Cleaners and Shirt Laundry, 641 W. Second, since 1947. He had been in the dry cleaning business for the past 36 years, and was formerly a partner in Washington Cleaners. The son of Frank and Mallye Jackman Dimmitt, he was born in Ottumwa Aug. 26, 1908. He was a lifelong resident of Ottumwa. A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted Oct. 20, 1942, in Des Moines and was discharged July 7, 1945, in San Bernardino, Calif. He was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1926. Mr. Dimmitt was a member of Ottumwa Lodge No. 16, A.M.&F.M., and of BPOE No. 347. His marriage to Mapel V. Ward took place June 2, 1934, in Ottumwa. She survives, as also do two brothers, Wilbur S. Dimmitt, of Danville, Ill., and Donald A. Dimmitt of Ottumwa; and one sister, Mrs. Ardeth Rudolph of Ottumwa. He also leaves two nephews and five nieces. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with Rev. William Ira Kerr of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Iloff Allender, Neal Wright, Otto Simmer, John Logan, C.O. Chance and D.E. Reynolds. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
