Read More	Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa May 5, 1971, Page 7 Services Held For Arthur Gowin Arthur Gabbert Gowin of Dexter, a former resident of Winterset, passed away April 26 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home of Perry, where he'd moved April 1. He was 76 years of age. Mr. Gowin was the son of William Stokley and Sarah Elizabeth Gabbert Gowin. He was born two miles east of Dexter on December 19, 1894. He grew up in that community attended the local school and went to college in Iowa City, then farmed with his brother, George, until entering the service. He enlisted March 15, 1918 and served in the navy one year as a Qtr Master 1st Class in aviation. He was married to Marie Oberman Ruth on July 22, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois where they lived for three years. They lived in Bettendorf, Iowa for twenty-five years before moving to Winterset, and later to Dexter. Mr. Gowin was employed as a railway mail clerk for thirty-five years. He was an active member of Mt. Tabor Masonic Lodge and the American Legion, and a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie nine weeks ago, two sisters and five brothers. Survivers include a sister, Bertha Billings, and a brother, Dean Gowin, both of Madison Manor at Winterset, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held April 29 from the United Presbyterian Church in Dexter, with Rev. John Latta in charge. Lloyd Herron, district lecturer of the Masons delivered the oration. Burial was at the McDonald cemetery northwest of Winterset. Transcribed as published by Karen Brewer.
