He was born July 1, 1910, in Carbon, Iowa the son of Albert William Gay and Flora (Misner) Gay. Art died Monday, June 21, 2004 at his home in Villisca, Iowa. Art started farming at the age of 16. Read More	Arthur Harold Gay of Villisca, Iowa, died at the age of 93 years 11 months and 21 days, (he lacked 9 days of his 94th birthday). He was born July 1, 1910, in Carbon, Iowa the son of Albert William Gay and Flora (Misner) Gay. Art died Monday, June 21, 2004 at his home in Villisca, Iowa. Art started farming at the age of 16. He married Hazel Dalgetty in 1931. To this union were born two children: Verlea and Donald. Art worked during the summer in Minnesota working on a farm that had six sections of land and also 50 head of Belgian horses and during the winter he returned to Carbon, Iowa to work as a top hand at the John Ruth Coal Mine near Carbon. He later married Catheryne Greenfield March 14, 1942 in Maryville, Missouri. to this union were born three children: Clayton, Ruth and Ronald. Catheryne died May 21, 1964 of injuries received in an auto accident. After his marriage to Catheryne he farmed for Charlie Fryer south of Villisca. then they moved to Stanton, Iowa where he worked for the Connie Ossian Dairy and later for the railroad. Art purchased a farm southwest of Villisca in 1946 he lived there until Catheryne's death in 1964. Art moved to College Springs in January 1965, along with Ruth and Ronald. Art worked as a public relations counselor for the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda. He retired in 1972 after working there for over 17 years. After retiring Art delivered the Omaha World Herald until he was 86. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with horses. Art was survived by a special friend Iris Delaney of Villisca, IA, and his children: Verlea Sands of Creston, IA, Donald Gay and wife Carolyn of Gilroy, CA, Clayton Gay and Margaret of Villisca, IA Ruth Gay of Villisca, IA and Ron Gay and wife Cindy of Villisca, IA, twenty grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters, plus many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death b his parents, wife Catheryne, sisters; Maxine, Arbell and Charlotte, one brother Russell, two grandsons John Carpenter and Curt Gay and a great granddaughter Kaitlyn Gay. Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2004 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, with burial in the Villisca Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday evening from 7 to 8. A memorial is being established.
