After the common schools of Americus, he attended Baker University and Manhattan College. Arthur Jacob Myers was born April 14, 1868, in the beautiful Muskingum valley, Washington county, Ohio. He moved with his parents to Americus, Kan., April 1, 1885. After the common schools of Americus, he attended Baker University and Manhattan College. In the latter institution he learned the creamery business, and for the last two years if his life was proprietor of the Americus creamery. He was married to Miss Minnie Raley, February 15, 1893. To this union a daughter was born February 14, 1894. His wife died May 1896, since which time Arthur has resided in the home of his parents, his little daughter living near him with her Grandmother Raley. At seventeen years of age Arthur was united with the M. E. church in Americus, under the ministration of Rev. D. S. Baldwin. From that time until his death he proved a most efficient worker in every department of the church, where his help was needed. He was president of the Epworth League for a number of years, was superintendent of the Sunday school for eight years, resigning on account of failing health; taught a class most of his twenty years' residence in Americus, and was a member of the board of trustees at the time of his death. He became engaged one year ago to a most estimable young woman teacher in the Indian school at Carson City, Nevada, who gave up her position that she might be with him during his final sickness. He had just completed a modern cottage near the creamery, and was to have been married at about the time of his death. Father and mother, his little daughter Carrie Raley Myers, three sisters, and three brothers survive him. His death was result of organic heart disease, brought on by overlifting about twelve years ago. His sickness was prolonged and he did not seem to realize that he would not recover until the very end. Then he seemed perfectly resigned, talked freely of going, and bequeathed his worldly possessions to those near and dear. His presence and help in both religious and social gathering was an inspiration to all with whom he came in contact. His genial, hopeful nature, his ability to make and hold his friends proved a great help to him in Cristian (sic) work. He died Tuesday, April 11, 1905. The funeral services conducted by his pastor, Rev. Funston, assisted by Rev. Wilson, were held in the M. E. church (where he had worshiped for the past twenty years) Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Funston delivered a most helpful address upon on the text found in Hebrews 9:27. Appropriate music was furnished by a quartet. Mr. Myers sabbath class, consisting of eighteen young women, had beautified the church with cream draperies, potted plants and cut flowers; and attended the services in a body. The floral offering were profuse and beautiful. The pallbearers were young men selected from Arthur's most intimate acquaintances. Internment was made in the Americus cemetery. It was one of the largest funerals that has been in Americus in years. Every service that human hands could render to the departed, or lighten the sorrow of the bereaved, was gladly given. -Emporia Gazette, Tuesday, April 18, 1905; p. 5, c. 2
