Description	:	Arthur James Williams was born on September 21, 1878 in Pawnee Rock, Kansas to John B. Williams and Mary E. Holland. He was born in a sod house on the Kansas prairie, which his parents had traveled to by covered wagon from their homes in Elizabeth, Illinois. Williams and Mary E. Holland. He was born in a sod house on the Kansas prairie, which his parents had traveled to by covered wagon from their homes in Elizabeth, Illinois. Sometime after Arthur's brother, George T., was born on October 5th, 1884, the family moved to a farm southwest of Emmetsburg, Iowa. In 1900, Arthur was 25 years old and working on the family farm. At the age of 26, Art falls in love with Florence Mae Moses and they are married on December 2, 1901 at Webb, Iowa. Their first child, Myrtle Esther, was born in Estherville on March 4th, 1903. They moved to Emmetsburg on the farm and Estell Arthur, their second child and first son, was born on May 10th, 1906. By 1910, his parents have retired and moved into a home in town at 1103 Lawler Street. On December 20th, 1911 their third child, John B., is born and on August 9th, 1914, their last child Mary L. is born. After his father, John B., died in 1928, his mother Mary moved in with them on the farm. Her health badly deteriorated and she went to live with her daughter, Florence Thompson, in Estherville until she died on January 16th, 1934. In 1936, Art and Florence moved into town to their home at 1103 Lawler Street. Art first was a policeman for the city of Emmetsburg and Florence became a clerk at Woodword's Department Store. After he left the police force, he sold seed corn for Pfiester and drove a U.S. mail truck on a Star Route. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 2, 1951, which was attended by a large group of friends and relatives. Florence was found to have cancer in the fall of 1954 and in spite of several operations at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, she died on December 9th, 1954. Art took her death very hard and grieved for her continuously. In an attempt to overcome his grief and loneliness, he married Martha Elizabeth Yarnes on September 29th, 1959. Martha developed cancer and died on January 5th, 1964. Shortly after Martha died, Art moved to Spencer to live with his son Estell and his wife Kathryn. On April 2, 1971, he passed away at the age of 92. Arthur was a good strong man with excellent moral values. He loved to fish and made many trips to Leach Lake with groups of friends and relatives. He had a reputation for being very outspoken and you always knew where you stood with him. He was judged to be a very good man by all his friends and acquaintances.
