Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Rev. Duane Duley officiating, assisted by the Rev. Luke Timm of Clive. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Cemetery in Buffalo, Neb. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of the arrangements. Art was born on June 29, 1918, in Dawson County, Neb., to Fred G. and Sophie (Abele) Heins. He grew up in and received his education in Dawson County. He married Gloria Struempler on June 1, 1947. Gloria preceded him in death on July 19, 1952. On May 1, 1955, he married Ramona Laun in Lexington, Neb. Art was a farmer throughout his entire life. In 1969, they moved to Riverdale, Neb., and then to Kearney in 2005. He moved to Urbandale in 2015 to be near his wife’s care facility in Des Moines. He was a member of and assisted in the construction of First Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Later church memberships included Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Trinity Lutheran Church of Amherst, Neb., and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Most recently he was attending Living Faith Lutheran Church in Clive. He was also an elder and trustee of the church, a member of L.L.L., sang in the church choir and served on numerous committees. He was an active 4-H leader and was a member of the Amherst Community Chorus, the Amherst School Board and the 1733 Kearney Area Barbershoppers for 35 years. Art also enjoyed woodworking, welding, singing and his grandkids. Survivors include his wife, Ramona; three daughters, Robin Boell and her husband, Doug, of Kearney, Laura Kelley and her husband, Vince, of Gering, Neb., and Kay Bauer and her husband, Troy, of Dallas Center; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Vickers of Alliance, Neb., and Esther Gibbs of Kearney; a sister-in-law, Lola Heins of Gothenburg, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gloria; three brothers; two sisters-in-law; and a grandson-in-law.
