A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Plymouth, with Father Thomas McAndrew officiating.Burial will be in the Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth. Arthur ``Art'' Joseph Hovel was born March 9, 1920, in Mason City, the son of Edward Hovel and Rose (nee) Wise Hovel. He attended and received his education in the Plymouth School system, graduating from Plymouth High School in 1940. After completing his education, he farmed on the family farm near Plymouth for 25 years, moving to Plymouth in 1966 where he worked as a maintenance man for the city of Plymouth until his retirement in the mid-1980s. Source: Globe Gazette He was united in marriage to Claretta Clark on Oct. 13, 1941,at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly. While living in Plymouth he helped remove snow and plowed gardens for area residents. He enjoyed gardening and was actively involved in the community. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was also the custodian. He was a volunteer firefighter in Plymouth, a member of the Boehmian Cemetery board and a member of the Manor Retirement Board. He is survived by his wife, Claretta Hovel of the Manly Care Center; one daughter, Marjorie Huntley and her husband, Wayne, of Rockwell; one son, Michael Hovel of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Tracy Bolin and her husband, Joel of Marshalltown; Shawn Hovel and his wife, Micky of Marshalltown; Melissa Dahl and her husband, Dani, of Clear Lake; Mark Johnson and his wife, Konnie of Winona, Minn., and Misty Hovel of Marshalltown; five great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Hovel and his wife, Dorothy, and Reuben Hovel, all of Manly, as well as other relatives and friends.
