Description	:	Arthur Leone Applegate, eldest son of Arthur Augustus and Frances Ella (Knapp) Applegate, was born March 30, 1883, in the Cheyenne Community in Osborne County, Kansas, and died at the Osborne Hospital on January 16, 1971. He received his education in the Cheyenne Public School. At the age of 21 he went to Kearney County and took out a claim, later becoming foreman of the Beatty Ranch which consisted of 20,000 acres of land. Read More	Arthur Leone Applegate, eldest son of Arthur Augustus and Frances Ella (Knapp) Applegate, was born March 30, 1883, in the Cheyenne Community in Osborne County, Kansas, and died at the Osborne Hospital on January 16, 1971. He received his education in the Cheyenne Public School. At the age of 21 he went to Kearney County and took out a claim, later becoming foreman of the Beatty Ranch which consisted of 20,000 acres of land. He spent most of his life farming and ranching in the west. He returned to the Cheyenne Community in 1951 and continued farming until his health began to fail. He spent the last seven years in a rest home in Osborne. He was a good neighbor and friend and always lived by the Golden Rule. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Left to mourn his death are two brothers, three sisters and two sisters-in-law. They are: Mrs. Eldora Getman, Granger, Washington, Miss Evea Applegate and Mrs. Mildred Princ, Topeka, Kansas, Frank and Forrest Applegate of Luray, Mrs. Paul Applegate, Topeka, and Mrs. John Applegate, Luray; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Cheyenne Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, with Rev. Richard Krenz officiating. Music was by Rev. and Mrs. Richard Krenz, vocalist, and Mrs. Robert Cederbert, pianist. Pallbearers were Carl Langley, Orval Standley, John Branda, Harvey Sigle, Lowell McKanna and Walter Becker.
