Read More	Published in The Rochester News-Sentinel Monday, April 23, 1956 Arthur Leroy Deniston Arthur Leroy "Roy" DENISTON, 73, lifelong resident and civic leader of Rochester, died of a heart attack at 9:45 a.m. today at his home, 1310 Main street. The news of his sudden death came as a shock to his many friends throughout Rochester and Fulton county. He had been in failing health for the past three or four years from a heart ailment, but his condition had not been regarded as critical and he was at his office a few hours every day. Roy, as he was known to his friends, had an active business and political career and through these activities was well-known, not only throughout Indiana, but in oher states in the Mid West area. In 1914, he entered business with his father, serving as secretary-treasurer of the Rochester Bridge Company from 1914 to 1916. In 1916, he became president of the bridge company, which in its peak years employed over 135 men. During World War I the company did work for the government, making steel plating and structures for ships. Roy's career in the political field began in 1910 when he became a Democratic member of the first city council of Rochester. A few years later he served as a member of the Rochester City School Board. He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1914 to 1916 and was Democratic district chairman from 1917 to 1921. He served as State Senator from 1936 to 1940. Mr. Deniston served several years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Indiana State Prison at Michigan City and also was Superintendent of State Prison Industries in 1944. In later years, he was head of the Indiana Road Paving Company and retiring from that field he was a co-partner in Deniston and Garber Construction Company of this city. At the time of his death he was a co-owner of the Fulton County Beverage Distributing firm, of this city. Roy was one of the founders of the Rochestr country club and served as its president for three different terms. The son of William H. and Maria (HOOVER) DENISTON, he was born Sept. 9, 1882 in Rochester. Following his graduation from Rochester high school, he attended Purdue University where he took a civil engineering course. On June 24, 1903, he was married to Ada R. RANNELLS, of this city. She preceded him in death April 8, 1955. Mr. Deniston was a member of the Rochester First Presbyterian church; the Eagles and Moose lodges, of this city; the Masonic Order and the Shriners. He recently had been honored by the Masonic lodge, which presented him with a 50-year membership pin. Surviving are a son, William H. DENISTON, of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) WALL, Lebanon; and Mrs. Park (Barbara) STETSON, Detroit; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Pearl PAGE, this city, and Mrs. Bertha RANNELLS, Chicago. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body rests at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday. ----- Published in The Rochester News-Sentinel Thursday, April 24, 1956 A. L. Donald DECKER of the First Presbyterian church and the Masonic members will officiate. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. The pallbearers are, Donald ROSS, Ted JONTZ, Carl Van TRUMP, C. E. GILGER, Robert DuBOIS and Floyd LEBO. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis DEEDS, Charles T. JONES, Charles MacVEAN, Hugh A.
