He was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Rose, Kansas, the son of Fred and Edna (Brown) Solomon. He grew up and attended school in the Woodson County area, later earning his GED. He was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Rose, Kansas, the son of Fred and Edna (Brown) Solomon. He grew up and attended school in the Woodson County area, later earning his GED. He lived in Humboldt, Chanute, Greensburg, Howard, Madison, Caney, and Eureka, before returning to Humboldt in the 1980s. He married Wilma Grace Carlson on May 4, 1941, at Buffalo. She survives. He was a farmer, rancher, banker, and was an advocate for human rights, especially Africa and the Middle East. He was a member of Lions Club of Chanute and Greensburg; Gideons at Yates Center; First Baptist Church; the United Methodist Church in Greensburg and Madison; National American Baptist Association - Mission Board; president of Congregational Construction for Kansas American Baptist Convention; and board member of Agri-Services Foundation, Fresno, Calif. He served on school boards of Cottage Grove and Howard and as president of Kansas Co-op Council. Other survivors include one son, Les Solomon, of Alexandria, VA; one daughter, Joyce Miller, of Glen Ellyn, IL; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Eugene Solomon, and Virgil Solomon, both of Chanute, KS. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Evelyn Solomon; and two sisters, Margaret and Edith Solomon. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at First Baptist Church, Humboldt, KS. A private family service and burial will be held at a later time. Memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas or First Baptist Church, Humboldt, may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements. ********************************
