Read More	Arthur McKone, one of Boone's most highly respected citizens, died at his late residence, 1609 Story St., at 3:30 o'clock Monday morning, after a brief illness of two weeks, with pneumonia. Deceased was in his 75th year, being born in County Louth, Ireland, September 28, 1828. In 1852 as an ambitious young man, he decided to follow the example of countless other young men and women of that unhappy isle, to emigrate to America where they might enjoy personal liberty, and where by innate ability and integrity of purpose, and dauntless courage, they might win for themselves and their posterity, that success in life which was denied them at home. He resided one year in New York then removed to Ohio, where he spent one year, then removed to Mendota, Ill., where he resided until 1872, and where in 1857 he was united in marriage to Bridget McKone, also a native of Ireland and who still survives him. In 1872 he removed, with his family, to Boone County, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Colfax Township, since which time the writer has known him intimately, and can write with a personal knowledge of his many excellent qualities of head and heart, that have endeared him to all who knew him. A kind neighbor, a faithful and generous friend. To know him meant to honor and respect him. But it was in the sacred privacy of the family relation that his manly qualities shown brightest. A kinder, or more loving and considerate husband and father it has never been our pleasure to know and our hearts respond in deepest sympathy with the bereaved widow and children who are left to mourn his loss. They must be comforted by the thought that he was spared to a long life of usefulness and honor, and that every duty he owed to God, his family and to his fellow man, was fulfilled with strictest justice and integrity, and that he has been called only a little in advance of them to the reward he has so richly earned. About six years ago he removed with his family to this city to enjoy the rest he had earned by a long life of toil and hardships. While here he has made many friends, who will sincerely mourn his death. A naturally healthy man, his last illness was so brief, and his death so sudden and unexpected, that only the members of his immediate household were with him at the last. Besides the widow, mentioned above, he leaves four children, W.H. McKone of Denver, Colorado, J. J. of Colfax township, Ella, wife of J.F. Ivis, a well-known carpenter and contractor of this city, and Agnes, still at home with her mother; and four sisters, Mrs. Canavan of Kansas City, Mrs. McCard of Texas, Mrs. McCallister still residing in Ireland, and Mrs. Michael Keenan of Ames. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Church of the Sacred Heart, Father Lenehan officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
