Read More	Mrs. Bridget McKone, widow of the late Arthur McKone, and another of the best known and most highly respected pioneer women of Boone County, passed peacefully to her reward at the family home on North Story Street in this city, at 4:00 o'clock Friday evening, February 22nd, in her seventy sixth year. Her husband died just about three years ago and since that time she had been in failing health, but the final illness lasted only about two weeks. She was taken with a severe attack of the grip, which the infirmities of old age would not enable her to withstand and death resulted as stated above. The funeral services were held from the Sacred Heart church at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon conducted by Father Saunders, and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives of the family. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery beside those of her husband and two children, who had preceded her in death. Many beautiful floral tributes bespoke the general esteem and sorrow of her friends. Bridget McKone was born in the County Louth, Ireland, where she grew to young womanhood. She came to America in 1856 and settled at Mendota, Illinois, where, in 1860, she was united in marriage to Arthur McKone, also a native of Ireland. The family came to Boone County in 1874 and settled on a farm in Colfax township, ten miles southeast of Boone. They were among the first settlers of that section of the county and endured all the hardships and privations common to pioneer life in a new country, but by constant application and economy and strict business integrity they built up a handsome home and acquired a competency for old age and for their children. About thirteen years ago they retired from active life and removed to Boone to spend their declining years in peaceful retirement. To Mr. and Mrs. McKone were born six children, two daughters, Mary and Catherine, having preceded the parents to the better world. The surviving children are: W.H. McKone, of Denver, Colorado, J.J. McKone, residing on the farm in Colfax Township; Ella, wife of J.F. Ivis, the well known contractor of this city and Agnes, who resided at home with her mother and gave her tender and devoted care of a loving daughter in her declining years. A sister Mrs Charles Duffy, and a brother, Terence McKone, of Colfax township, also survive her. She was an earnest and devoted member of the Catholic Church and ever lived a devout and beautiful Christian life. A loving and devoted wife and mother and kindly and loyal friend and neighbor, she has left to her children a proud heritage, and they may well fufill the scriptural prophecy, "Rise up and call her blessed." An innumerable host of friends join with the family in regretting her death and extend to them most sincere sympathy in their bereavement.
