The Mapleton Press, 2 June 1938: Funeral services for Arthur Kelly, 55-year-old resident of Smithland, who passed away Wednesday of last week following a brief illness of pneumonia, were held Friday afternoon in the Methodist Church at Smithland. Rev. Alonzo Pruitt officiated. Interment was made in the Smithland Cemetery under the direction of the Willman Funeral Home of Rodney. Hale P. Davis, Don Bennett, Bill Johnson, Lloyd Hall, Lyle Seavey and Ralph Rader served as pallbearers. Two weeks ago, George Kelly passed away of pneumonia. Two other persons, Beryl and Gene, are in a Sioux City hospital now, both ill with pneumonia. Mr. Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.A. Kelly, was born at Albia, Iowa, November 9, 1882. When 12 years of age he moved with his parents to Missouri and when 21 years old moved to Luck, Wisconsin. In 1908 he was married to Miss Bessie Risley of Centuria, Wisconsin, where they made their home until 1917 when they moved to Smithland, which has since been their home. He is survived by his widow and four sons, Loyal, Jessie, Beryl and Gene, all living at home. He also is survived by one grandson, Jerry; one sister, Mrs. William P. Coe of Mapleton; three half-brothers, Tim and Tilden Tadlock of Mapleton, and Simon Tadlock of Rosalie, Nebraska; two half-sisters, Mrs. Zora Castle of Alta and Mrs. Lydia Martz of Ottumwa.
