Pallbearers were five grandsons, Arthur and George Schoch, Lynn, Morris and Lyle Amsden, and a nephew, Lyman Amsden. Born in Oronoco, Minn., on January 3, 1858, Mr. Amsen came to South Dakota in the year of 1881 and settled in the Groton vicinity. On February 22, 1883, he was married to Rachel Herron at Springville, Wis. To this union ten children were born, eight of whom survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Ralph, and a daughter, Kate. Left to mourn his passing are three daughters and five sons, namely: Mrs. Jessie Schoch, Groton; Wm. Amsden, Lodgepole; Mrs. Bert Flint (Dora), Groton; Mrs. H. A. Somers (Amy), Andover; Bruce Amsden, Yakima, Wash.; Albert Amsden, St. Paul, Minn.; George Amsden, Groton, and Wallace Amsden. Forty-two grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Amsden was one of the few remaining early settlers who came to this country in 1881, to endure the hardships of early pioneering. He was very progressive and held many offices of trust during his career. His high ideals gained for him the fellowship of a wide circle of acquaintances. The many friends of this highly esteemed pioneer extend deep sympathy to the relatives in the loss of their loved one. Among those from a distance attending the services included: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Amsen and son, Lynn, of Lodgepole; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Flint, who are spending the winter at Casper, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Somers, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Flemmer of Andover; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Amsden, son, Morris and daughter, Katherine of Yakima, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Amsen, St. Paul, and Mr. and Mrs. Al Tracy of Huron. Alfred Paetznick was in charge of funeral arrangements.
