Artis was born December 4, 1922 to Ernest F. and Clara B. (Boline) Johnson near Harvard. She attended Harvard Public School and graduated from Sutton High School in 1940. On February 5, 1944 she was united in marriage to Dale Earl Lemkau in San Diego. She was a secretary for Kansas?Nebraska Gas Co. in Sutton for 31 years. She was a member of the Federated Church, Order of Eastern Star, Evening Star Chapter No. 54 of Sutton and Sutton American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 61of Sutton. She was also a volunteer for the Sutton Community Senior Center and was in charge of the Avenue of Flags for the American Legion. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, on July 12, 1986; one infant son, Tommy and one brother Rolland Johnson. Survivors include three daughters, Tammy McGill and her husband H.T. of Glendale, Az, Kathy Lemkau of Lincoln and Mona Ulmer and her husband Kevin of Newton, IA; one son, Monte and his wife Kim of Sutton; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials maybe given to the Federated Church of Sutton Community Senior Center, both in Sutton. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton was in charge of arrangements. Transcribed from the Clay County Newspaper.
