Candee, one of the oldest residents of Postville, passed away early Thursday morning at 6:15 o'clock. If Mr. Candee had lived until June 26 he would have been 81 years old. He had been in failing health for many months but his condition seemed to be better during the last few weeks. On Saturday he rode down town and visited a short time with friends. Sunday evening he was taken suddenly ill and he failed to recover. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Community Presbyterian church with the Rev. J. Ian Fraser officiating. Burial was in Postville cemetery. Asa M. Candee was born June 26, 1859, in Allamakee county, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ara Candee, pioneer farmers of this county. When he was 14 years old he moved with his parents to a farm three miles east of Postville, which was located just over the line in Clayton county. On September 7, 1887, he was married to Miss Eva Hinman and to their union Ave children were born, all of whom survive their father: Roy and Lee of Volga City, Clifton of Bound Brook, N. J„ Lance of Anamosa and Floy (Mrs. Fred Jahnke) of Postville. He is also survived by his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Candee lived on the farm east of Postville until 1921, when they moved to town. Three years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Candee was preceded in death by one brother, Roger, and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Van Gorder and Florence Candee. Among the people from out-of-town coming Saturday to attend the funeral services held for Asa Candee were the following: Roy R. Candee and family, Lee A. J.; Lynn Hinman and family of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hinman of Chicago, Ill.; George Hinman, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hinman, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hinman, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pearson and Mr. and Mrs. Mert Smith, all of Luana; Mrs. John Belfy and son, Murray Mann, of Moline, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Clark of West Union; George Leete, Will Leete, Mr. and Mrs. Don Leete, Ray Leete, Velma Leete, all of Volga City; Mr. and Mrs. Hilas Burnham of Waukon; Gene Siddel and Mrs. Salsburg of Wells, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Holway of Alden, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Garms, Mrs. Willis Evans and daughter of Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Nelson and Lew Rounds of Clermont.
