He was the manager of Luray Builder Supply and Luray Redi Mix. He was a member of Luray United Methodist Church and Lafayette Lodge No. 137 A.F.&A.M. He was the son of the late Ashby Rudolph Downer Sr. and the late Hattie (Allman) Downer. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle (Jones) Downer; daughter, Karen Downer Kasprzak and son-in-law, Jack Kasprzak; daughter, Elaine Downer Hamilton and son-in-law, Mitch Hamilton, all of Glen Allen; one sister, Phyllis Coiner of Gordonsville, Va.;... He was the son of the late Ashby Rudolph Downer Sr. and the late Hattie (Allman) Downer. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle (Jones) Downer; daughter, Karen Downer Kasprzak and son-in-law, Jack Kasprzak; daughter, Elaine Downer Hamilton and son-in-law, Mitch Hamilton, all of Glen Allen; one sister, Phyllis Coiner of Gordonsville, Va.; and four grandchildren, Dylan Hamilton, Emily Kasprzak, Caroline Kasprzak and Spencer Hamilton, all of Glen Allen. He was preceded in death by sister, Helen Hale, brother, William Downer and sister, Jean Perkins. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Luray United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Erich Bennett officiating. Interment will be at Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray. Memorial contributions may be made to Luray Rescue Squad.
