Myrt was born on January 2, 1933, in Louisa, Virginia to the late Robert and Dorothy "Dot" Jones. She grew up in Orange, Virginia, with her only sister, the late Thelma Louise "Mike" Jones Roberts. Read More	Helen Myrtle "Myrt" Jones Downer, 82, of Richmond, Virginia, died on July 25 in Richmond, Virginia at Our Lady of Hope Health Center. Myrt was born on January 2, 1933, in Louisa, Virginia to the late Robert and Dorothy "Dot" Jones. She grew up in Orange, Virginia, with her only sister, the late Thelma Louise "Mike" Jones Roberts. After Myrt graduated from Orange County High School she attended the University of Virginia School of Nursing, graduating in 1953. She married her high school sweetheart, Ashby Rudolph Downer, Jr., on January 2, 1954 in Orange, Virginia. Myrt and Ashby lived in Gordonsville and Front Royal before moving to Luray, Virginia in 1964. They were married for 60 years at the time of Ashby's death in March of 2014. Throughout her nursing career Myrt worked in hospitals, doctors' offices, the Page County Health Department, and as a school nurse for Page County Schools, where she retired after decades of service. Myrt especially enjoyed bridge, golf, UVA football, Saturday Night Supper Club, and time spent in Richmond with her children and grandchildren. Myrt is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Mitch Hamilton of Richmond, and Karen and Jack Kasprzak of Richmond; four grandchildren, Dylan Hamilton, Emily Kasprzak, Caroline Kasprzak, and Spencer Hamilton, all of Richmond; and many other relatives and life-long friends. A service will be held at Luray United Methodist Church on July 28 at 11:00 a.m. preceded by a visitation with the family at 10:00 a.m. A reception at the church will follow the burial at Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Myrt Downer to the Luray United Methodist Church, 1 West Main Street, Luray, Virginia 22835. An obituary was published in the Northern Virginia Daily on Monday, July 27, 2015. ________________________________________________
