Description	:	Aubrey Russell Humphries Jr., 60, of 71 Manor Road, Stuarts Draft, Virginia, went to be with the Lord after a courageous and heroic battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Virginia. Read More	Aubrey Russell Humphries Jr., 60, of 71 Manor Road, Stuarts Draft, Virginia, went to be with the Lord after a courageous and heroic battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Virginia. He was born March 3, 1946, the son of the late Aubrey Russell and Alice Fox Humphries of Vesuvius, Virginia. He retired from DuPont as a lab tech. He was a member of Stuarts Draft Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He was a Vietnam veteran after serving in the United States Army. A graduate of Rockbridge High School, he participated in and enjoyed baseball, basketball and football. As an avid golfer, he also served as president of the former Stuarts Draft Golf Association. Mr. Humphries' other interests also included hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, woodworking, and restoration of vintage vehicles. A wonderful grandfather, he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Beverley "Butch" Painter Humphries, he is also survived by four children, Cherie Lynn Knott and her husband, Tom, of Waynesboro, Terri Renee Gebhard and her husband, Eddie, of Fairfield, Virginia, Susan Annette Curlis and her fiancé, Denny Perry, of Stuarts Draft, and Jason Russell Humphries of Vesuvius. He is also survived by three sisters, Carol Hale and her husband, Jack, of Harrisonburg, Mary Lou Cash of Harrisonburg, and Connie Staton of Vesuvius. Also, he is survived by a number of nieces and nephews who meant so much to him. Two grandchildren, Trevor Knott and Christopher Curlis, also survive him. He was eagerly awaiting the impending birth of his third grandchild to be named Edward William Gebhard, Jr. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, by the Reverend William Kopp and the Reverend Dan Stanley at Stuarts Draft Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Hanger, Dave Brubaker, Stuart Dunlap, Don McClure, Danny McDorman, Harry Bradley, Gene Kline, and Zane Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth and Ann Layton, Charlie and Sandy Harper, George and Eloise Allen, Robert Lam, Larry Humphries, Becky and Joe Campbell, Martha and Henry Black, Nancy Kimble, Billy Bond, Merv Weaver, Kevin Lloyd and other friends attending the service.
