Audrey Elaine Rommen was born August 10, 1936, on the family farm near Bovee, South Dakota, to Edward and Hazel (Gunderson) Rommen. She was baptized and confirmed at Bloomington Lutheran Church. She attended school at Bovee and Platte, graduating from Platte High School in 1954. Audrey Elaine Rommen was born August 10, 1936, on the family farm near Bovee, South Dakota, to Edward and Hazel (Gunderson) Rommen. She was baptized and confirmed at Bloomington Lutheran Church. She attended school at Bovee and Platte, graduating from Platte High School in 1954. She graduated from Presentation School of Nursing – Mitchell Unit, and worked as a registered nurse in Cody, Wyoming, Mitchell, Platte, Burke, Gregory, Winner and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Secora, New Mexico and Tucson, Arizona. On March 2, 1958, she married Kenneth Mason at Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte, South Dakota. They farmed near Platte for nearly 40 years, before moving into Platte in 1997. They then spent several winters working in Tucson, Arizona. Audrey enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, and quilting with her friends and family, and was active on the farm. Audrey was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, held many offices and was active in many church groups. She was also active with Jaycees, Toastmasters and Red Hat Society. Audrey and Ken sponsor the T. Mason scholarship every year at Platte-Geddes High School. They won Jaycee’s State Outstanding Young Farmer in 1970 and Master Pork Producer in 1973. Audrey and Kenneth enjoyed traveling all over the United States and even took a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Audrey also took a trip to Norway, where her great grandparents were born and met some of her relatives there. She is predeceased by her parents and one son, Todd Mason.
