Schwager, 76 were held a St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Chambers on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock on March 19th with Pastor Glenn Kalthoff officiating. Pallbearers were: J.W. Walter, Lyman Covey, Henry Wood, Kenneth LaRue, Duane Summerer and William Jutte. Music was furnished by Mrs. J. W. Walter at the organ and members of the church choir singing three hymns. Ushers were Donald Hoffman and Arnold Lenz. Mrs. Anna Albers ad charge of the register. Biglin's of O'Neill were the funeral directors. Interment was made in the Chambers cemetery.... August Ernest Schwager, son of August Schwager, Sr., and Ernestine (Schnabel)Schwager, was born on May 6, 1889 on a farm near Wisner, Nebraska in Cuming County. He was baptized at an early age, and was confirmed on April 16, 1905 in Zion Lutheran Church, Clearwater Creek, Nebraska. At the age of two years he moved, with his parents, to a farm 8 miles south of Pilger. When he was 14 they moved to a farm near Clearwater. Later, while living in the vicinity of Orchard he met Miss Christine Leiding, whom he married on December 14, 1913. They became the parents of eight children. In 1946 the family moved to a ranch north of Chambers, where Mr. and Mrs. August Schwager resided until their retirement in 1981, at which time they moved into the village of Chambers. Following a prolonged illness, death came to Mr. Schwager on March 15, 1966 in St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill. He had attained the age of 76 years, 10 months and 9 days. He is survived by his devoted wife Christine, four daughters; Mrs. Clara Hergert of Lebanon, Oregon; Mrs. Rosa Hergert of Sherrard, Illinois; Mrs. Leona Thompson of Kansas City, Kansas; and Mrs. Elvera Huntley of Pilger, Nebraska; three sons: Fritz of Ewing, Walter of Aledo, Illinois and Elmer of Springview, Nebraska, one sister; Mrs. Clara Schwanke of Brush, Colorado; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
