August Maystadt, 74, well Known in Carroll and vicinity, died at the St. Anthony Hospital at 11:10 this morning, a victim of double pneumonia. Mr. Maystadt had been ill of the flu for a few days when pneumonia developed. He was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening. Thursday he showed very slight improvement, but at night he again became worse. He passed away well fortified with the last rites of the Catholic Church. The body will be taken Saturday morning from the Kircher Dietrich Funeral Home to the family residence, 215 North Clark Street, where it will rest until the time of the services. Rites will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. Joseph's Church, where requiem high mass will be read. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Francis August Maystadt was born in Treysa, Province of Hesse, Germany, May 20, 1864, a son of Henry and Elizabeth Maystadt. When he was eighteen years old he came to this country and lived with his uncle, Henry Miller, on a farm near Arcadia for a few years. He worked at the carpenter trade until the time of his marriage. Sept. 9, 1890, Mr. Maystadt was married to Miss Elizabeth Schwarzkopf at Wall Lake, Ia. They made their home on their farm near Wall Lake until Mar. 1, 1910, when they moved to their farm two and one-half miles north of Carroll on Highway No. 71, which is now the home of their son, Michael J. Maystadt. In February, 1938, Mr. and Mrs. Maystadt retired to make their home in Carroll. Surviving Mr. Maystadt are his wife and eleven children: Anthony Maystadt, Carroll; Mrs. Theodore Miller (Katherine), Norman, Neb.; Michael J. Maystadt, Carroll; Mrs. B.J. Olberding (Mary), Denison; John Maystadt, Chicago; Mrs. M.A. Wattier (Rose), Carroll; Joseph P. Maystadt, Carroll; Mrs. Walter Goecke (Ann), Red Oak; Margaret Maystadt, Carroll; Frances Maystadt, Ridgeway, Illinois; and Henry F. Maystadt, who is attending school in Chicago. One son died in infancy. There are 33 grandchildren
