Guenther August Friederich Herman Guenther, son of Herman G. and Anna Beckmann Guenther was born Sept. 23, 1908 on a farm in Nemaha County, Nebraska. He was one of nine children born to this marriage. He grew up in Nemaha County and attended Dist. 61 rural school. April 11, 1937 he was united in marriage Eleanora W.Lampert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville,Minnasota. To this marriage 4 children were born. After their marriage August and his family lived on a farm south of Johnson, Nebraska. He and his wife continued to live here until last year. August was an active of Martin Luther Lutheran Church. The church was very important in the life of August. He was a member of the church council and Lutheran Brotherhood and was instrumental in the planning and building of the present church building. August enjoyed fishing and hunting and one of his favorite passtimes was doing carpentry work. November 10, 1988 August was hospitilized in Lincoln, Nebraska for two weeks. After his hospital stay he was cared for in the home of his daughter, Marilyn in Lincoln. It was there that he passed away March 31, 1989. Having reached the age of 80 years 6 months and eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Glen who passed away in 1984-three brothers, Henry, Fred and Walter and three sisters, Frieda, Emma and Lena. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Eleanora of Lincoln. 3 daughters, Marilyn (Swartz) Herman, and her husband John of Lincoln. Donna Bohling and her husband Harold of Auburn, NE. and Norma DeBoer and her husband Doyle of Lincoln. 8 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, Ernest Guenther of Topeka, KS. one sister, Agnes Eicher of Seward, NE. nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers: Dennis Eggers, Gailen Eggers, Mark Rippe, Daniel Rippe, Harley Fass, Gregory Jensen. Services held at Martin Luther Church, Johnson, NE. Monday April 3, 1989 11:a.m. Rev. Richard Freuhling officiated.
