He was the child of Herman Rother and his wife, Ida Mae Levoalt. Read More	From The Wolbach Messenger, December 31, 1959, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: August (Gus) Rother was born April 4, 1891, on a farm in Howard County, Nebraska, near Wolbach. He was the child of Herman Rother and his wife, Ida Mae Levoalt. A few years after his birth, the family moved to a farm about six miles northeast of Wolbach, where Mr. Rother was to spend the greater part of his life. He and his wife moved to Wolbach in 1950. He passed to his rest at St. Paul on Dec. 26, 1959, after an illness of two months. At death he was 68 years, 8 months and 22 days of age. On June 19, 1946 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Nora Silk. The vows of marriage were said in Grand Island, Nebraska. Mr. Rother was a loyal member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Wolbach for many years. For forty-one successive years, he had been a member of the American Legion Post in Wolbach and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. In Mr. Rother's passing, the Legion post loses one of its oldest continuous active members. He had many friends and was a friend to all. Gus also served his fellow citizens in various ways, having been elected to the town board for a term and working as street commissioner. In addition to farming, Mr. Rother also served on the board of directors of the People State Bank of Wolbach. He was known as a hard worker. Mr. Rother leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Nora, three sisters, Mrs. Mattie James of Oconto, Nebr., Mrs. Lizzie Spencer of Scotia, Nebr., and Mrs. Ida Schrum of Wolbach; two brothers, Carl and Ernest of Cushing and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and William and a sister, Lena.
