Description	:	August Knollenberg, Sr. was born in Oldenburg, Germany on April 11, 1864. There he was baptized a few days after his birth. When 14 years of age he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. In the year 1882 he came to America, settling down first in Illinois. Eight years later the deceased moved to Kramer. Two years after he was united in holy matrimony with Caroline Holstein. Read More	August Knollenberg, Sr. was born in Oldenburg, Germany on April 11, 1864. There he was baptized a few days after his birth. When 14 years of age he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. In the year 1882 he came to America, settling down first in Illinois. Eight years later the deceased moved to Kramer. Two years after he was united in holy matrimony with Caroline Holstein. She died in 1926, having lived with the deceased forty-two years in blessed matrimony. This union was blessed with eight children. Six of these are still living, namely: Anna Kemper of Pleasant Dale; Minnie Busboom of Milford; Alvina Buhrmann of Princeton; William of Hallam; August of Crete; and Fred of Kramer. One son died in his infancy, while another daughter, Rika Severin, passed away in October 1921. Besides these children two step-children survive Mr. Knollenberg. These are Mrs. Henry Meinke of Norfolk and Rudolph Friendt of Crete. Until 1922 the departed lived on a farm two miles southeast of Kramer, when he retired and lived in Kramer until his death. He passed away early Thursday morning after a short illness, having been taken to a hospital in Lincoln the day before. The cause of his death was pneumonia, following a severe cold. His age at his death was 68 years, 10 months, and 27 days. Besides the children and step-children already mentioned, there are two brothers and four sisters surviving him. These are: Garrett of Wichita, Kansas; George of Lincoln, Illinois; Mrs. Minnie Claussen of Iowa; Mrs. Fred Winkel of Atlanta, Illinois; Mrs. Mary Schmidt of Iowa; Mrs Dick Henefeldt of Iowa. There are also 18 grandchildren. Mr. Knollenberg had been a member of the Lutheran church all his life. After settling down near Kramer he joined the Kramer Lutheran congregation. He was especially active during the last years of his life in the affairs of the Kramer church. Nine years he was an elder, serving at the same time also as secretary and treasurer of the congregation. The congregation will feel his departure and his place will not be easy to fill. Possessing a good Christian knowledge and a keen insight in the affairs of the congregation, as well as the work of the church at large, his good judgment and sound advice will be missed.
