| Description | : | Christian Heinrich August Meyer was christened in Eidinghausen, Germany, a small village a few miles southwest of Minden. In October of 1852 his family emigrated to America aboard the Ship George with other German families from the Minden area. These families settled in an area east of Madison, Wisconsin along the boundary of Blooming Grove and Cottage Grove townships, now known as the community of Hope. August's father, Christian Diedrich Meier, died in Watertown, Wisconsin on the overland journey from Milwaukee to Dane County.
