Description	:	August was born in Prussia to Charles Ninow "Nenow" & Johanne Albertine Fredericke born Thoms. August Ninow was a Civil War Veteran. Company B 26th Wisconsin infantry, a volunteer. Discharged after three years of service. August's land grant was #317, in Pierce County. He was one of the original settlers. Mary (Marie) must have known August in Wisconsin & began his courtship with Mary. August & Mary had five children & lost another while living on the homestead, Hulda, Charles, August, Venus, George, Verena and Manetta (Nettie) was born in Norfolk. August & Mary had five children & lost another while living on the homestead, Hulda, Charles, August, Venus, George, Verena and Manetta (Nettie) was born in Norfolk. August had left his family (wife & small children) in 1883 for unknown reasons. By his death record he made it to California. Several children moved to California as adults and stayed. Son George isolated himself from the family for the rest of his life. He worked as a ranch hand in Northern California. I haven't found where George is buried. Unknown where August is buried exactly. There is no death record for him. The Santa Clara County Records office gave me information on the cemetery listed here. This is my best possible guess to where he was buried. A Victim of Whisky. San Jose, Nov. 25.-August Ninow was found dead at the Alma picnic grounds today. The deceased was a native of Prussia. 50 years of age and a member of Co. B. Twenty-sixth Wisconsin Volunteers. On Wednesday he bought half a gallon of whisky and other articles at the Alma, and from there evidently walked to the picnic grounds where he drank the liquor, laid down and died, the Coroner's jury says, from alcoholism and exposure.
