Funeral services for Herman Nenow, 81 who died at his home in Battle Creek shortly before noon Tuesday, were held this (Thursday) afternoon, at 2 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran church with Pastor O. A large number of relatives and friends from this section of the county accompanied the funeral party to Norfolk. Pallbearers were John Zohner, F.C. Prauner, Ernest Zohner, John Scheerger, Ed. P. Scott and William Tiedgen. Herman Nenow was a antive of Germany, where he was born November 3, 1858. He has no recollections of his native land as he was an infant when his parents emigrated to America and located at Watertown, Wisconsin. He was a boy about eight years old when his parents, with a number of other Wisconsin families, came west in 1866 and colonized at and near the little hamlet now known as the city of Norfolk, Nebraska. Here he grew to manhood and was married January 12, 1882, to Miss Minnie Hille, likewise a member of a Wisconsin family which pioneered in the Elkhorn valley. The first twenty years of their wedded life Mr. and Mrs. Nenow spent in the Norfolk community. Leaving Norfolk in 1904, they lived in Holt and Antelope counties some sixteen years before purchasing a home in Battle Creek which the deceased had occupied continuously for the past twenty years. Surviving are the aged wife and a daughter, Mrs. Esther Zohner, of Battle Creek and two sons, Alfred Nenow of Norfolk and Adolph of Tilden. Paul Nenow of Cherry is a brother and Mrs. Minnie Wichman, Norfolk a sister. There are eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Battle Creek Enterprise Thursday, April 18, 1940
