Here he bought the farm in Lake township on which his son John now lives, and here both he and his wife spent the rest of their lives. His death occurred in 1900. They had children as follows: Louise, the wife of Charles Niemoth; Augusta, the wife of August Witzke of Hall County; Frederick, who lives in Lake township; Gustave, who died at the age of twenty-one years, was a graduate of the Nebraska City Blind school, having become blind when two years old; William, who lives in Oklahoma; Ida, the wife of Emil Danker, a farmer near Palmer, Nebraska; Albert, who lives in Hall County; and John who lives on the old home place. In politics, the father of the above family was a Republican. He was regarded with confidence and esteem by all who knew him and for years held school and church offices. He belonged to the Missouri synod of the Lutheran church. Crop conditions were so discouraging the first year after the Quandt family came to Hall County, that they seriously considered the advisability of returning to Wisconsin. In the second year, however, the father cleared $1,300 on his farm and the family has prospered ever since. ** Grand Island Daily Independent Friday 3 Nov 1899 Death of August Quandt The death of August Quandt, whose sickness was mentioned in THE INDEPENDENT a few days ago, died at his home in Prairie Creek seven miles north of the city yesterday morning from heart trouble. The deceased leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss, and was sixty three years of age at the time of his death. The funeral will occur Saturday from the home at one o'clock. ** Daily Republican (Grand Island, NE) Friday 3 Nov 1899 August Quandt, living north of town and a resident of this county for many years, died at 7:30 yesterday morning of heart trouble. He was 63 years of age and leaves a wife and several children to mourn his demise. The funeral will take place from the residence at one o'clock Saturday afternoon and the body will be interred in Wiggerd's (sic) cemetery. **** Daily Republican (Grand Island, NE) Monday 6 Nov 1899 The funeral of August Quandt was largely attended Saturday, over 200 people being present.
