M. at the Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha, Nebr., after an illness of nearly two months which incapacitated him and confined him to his bed. Mr. Johnson's parents were homesteaders in Nebraska coming to Nance County and settling on Plum Creek in the year 1882. It was here that August grew to manhood, securing his education in the early schools of our county. It was also here that he met his bride-to-be, Miss Iva Robertson. However they were not united in marriage here but circumstances found them taking their matrimonial vows at Oakland, Calif., on June 18, 1907. After a year of married life in California Mr. Johnson and his bride returned to Nance County where they set up housekeeping on a farm near Genoa where they resided until 1919 when they moved to the city of Genoa. Here they made their residence until 1926 when Mr. Johnson made a successful campaign for the office of county sheriff. Following his election they moved to the sheriff's residence in Fullerton where they have since resided, Mr. Johnson being re-elected to his office for five consecutive terms. There came to bless the Johnson household four children: George Stanley, who now resides in Grand Island; Hillis Mathias, who lives at Hardin, Mont.; Norris Wilfred of Omaha; and Viola Marie, who is still at home. Mr. Johnson is also survived by one grandson, Gregg Morgan Johnson of Hardin Mont.; one brother Louis of Presho, S.D.; six sisters, Mrs. Becca Stenburg of Genoa, Mrs. Nellie Turk of Lincoln, Mrs. Dora Johnson of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Jennie Bishop of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Susie Nelson of Rockland, Wis., and Mrs Tilla Barber of Billings, Mont., Three brothers and one sisters preceded him in death, In addition to these immediate relatives there are many nephews, nieces, cousins, etc., besides a host of friends. Mr. Johnson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church while still a d child at home but for several years has been affiliated with the Fullerton Methodist church which he has attended and served, having just this past fall been elected an official member. A man faithful to duty, to his community, his family and his friends, his presence will be much missed the days to come. Grand Island Independent -- Clipping exact date unknown.
