Augusta Anna Alfs was born on February 21, 1870 in Holzkamp, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, Germany, and died at her home near Hooper, Nebr., December 20, 1915. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in the city of Ganderkase, and has been a faithful member of that religious organization both in Germany and in this country. She came to America in the year of 1889, in company with her sister, Mrs. John F. Haye, and husband. Four years later with these same relatives she went back to Germany for a visit, returning to make this her permanent home. On the 4th day of October, 1894, she was married to Edward Luther, the devoted and grief stricken husband, who survives to mourn her loss. Of their union six children were born three of whom have passed before their mother into the great beyond. The surviving children are Ernest of Omaha, and Howard and Carrie of Hooper. She also leaves four sisters and one brother, in Germany, Mrs. J. F. Haye, her sister, and a large number of more distant relatives and friends to grieve for her. Mrs. Luther was thoughtful as a neighbor, kindly as a friend, and devoted as a wife and mother. Here on earth she earned the respect of all, and the undying love and gratitude of those nearest and dearest to her. No wonder that her sudden death causes such deep regret. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) from the home at 12:30 p. m. and from the Logan church at 1:30 p. m. Rev. J. Schrader, assisted by Rev. L. Grauenhorst, of Fontanelle, will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the Logan cemetery. The community extends sincere sympathy.
