And what our departed Sister in faith wishes to say in the words of both texts to her loved ones still living in this Vale of Sorrows and tears in most admirably set forth in the poem entitled, "A Christian's Farewell." Weep not, belov'd, when I am gone, But let me sleep. My journey was a weary one, Hills were so steep. The valleys dark and filled with thorns - the road-- At last I reached the city of my God. Why do ye weep? Oft have I longed for peace and rest; Now rest is mine. And on my loving Savior's breast I now recline. The stream of life in crystal beauty flows; How sweet my slumber, perfect my repose! Why do ye pine? My God prepared this home for me In realms on high And all is blest tranquility Beyond the sky. No pain I know, no sorrow, no alarms I rest serenely in my Shepherd's arms Why do ye sigh? Washed in my Savior's precious blood, Saved by his His grace, His father's house is my abode, I see His face. Faith changed to sight! On this immortal shore The precious loved ones who have gone before I can embrace. Weep not, belov'd, soon shall we meet On Salem's shore, And oh! reunion will be sweet; All sorrow o'er The gates of pearl; the streets of purses gold. With raptured joy your eyes will then behold. Oh, weep no more. Weep not, although 'tis hard to hear The parting pain. Though death so ruthlessly did tear Love's bond in twain. My God will lead you by His loving hand And comfort you, until in Gloryland We meet again. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Mrs. Rieth's maiden name was Miss Augusta Elfrieda Dorothea Bose. She was born February 8, 1865, at Brandenburg, Germany. She came to America with her parents at the age of three years. Her first home was in Cincinnati, Ohio, later moving to Saunders County, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Knowing Mrs. Rieth, as we did, we can well associate her life with the two sisters of Bethany, Mary and Martha. Like Martha, she was kind and lovable in her ways and always faithfully performing her household duties and much concerned about the welfare and comfort of her home and guests. Again, like Mary she loved the Word of God and her pew in the Lord's house was never vacant unless illness forced her to remain at home. And even at home she would forget everything and listen with rapt attention to the sermon read to her by her pastor. Truly Mrs. G. Rieth was a humble Christian woman walking through life with Martha's zeal and Mary's love. On April 16, 1890, she was married to Mr. Gottlieb Rieth in Malmo, Nebraska and after two years they moved to Dixon County and settled on a farm near Concord. To this union sever children were born. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, and seven children: Herman, Albert, Ernest, William and Fritz; two daughters, Mrs. Herman Lehmann, and Mrs. W. D. Stalling; six grandchildren, two of whom are adopted children; her father, Fredrick Bose, now 99 years old; one sister, Theresa Knutzen, of Brunning, Nebraska. Her mother, one sister and two brothers preceded her in death. Relatives who came from a distance to render the last ministries of loving affection were:....................... Fredrick Kock, Carl Kock, Herman Bose, Alfred Bose, Clarence Bose and Paul Bose, nephews of the departed loved one acted as pall bearers. Flower girls were: Meta Bloh, Marie Doescher, Elsie Lippolt, Alice Rastede, Nola Isom and Regina Stalling. Yes, you have lost her whom you loved, Stilled the voice so sweet to hear. Now the hands by death are gloved, Warmed by love for many a year. Rest is hers, who never asked Rest, however she was tasked. Peacefully she sleeps today. She who would not sleep before, Those she loved had come to say They are safely home once more. Now she's closed her eyes and take Rest no trouble ever breaks. Mourn for her, of course you must, Oft your eyes shall fill with tears, But she taught you how to trust God throughout the passing years. She who taught you how to pray Had in mind this very day. You believed her when she said: "God knows best, and trust in Him" Shall you fail her now she's dead? Even though your eyes are dim, Dim with tears beside her grave, Live her teaching and be brave.
