Description	:	Mrs. Augusta Porath was born on the death day of Luther, February 18, 1854, in the Swanskog Parish, Wermland, Sweden. She was one of the thirteen children of Olof and Mary (Olson) Johnson. Soon after her birth she was in holy baptism received into the covenant of God. Read More	Mrs. Augusta Porath was born on the death day of Luther, February 18, 1854, in the Swanskog Parish, Wermland, Sweden. She was one of the thirteen children of Olof and Mary (Olson) Johnson. Soon after her birth she was in holy baptism received into the covenant of God. As a young girl about thirteen years old in 1867 she came with her parents to America; settling in Scandinavia, Wisconsin. There it was also where she received a thorough instruction in the word of God, and there at her confirmation renewed her baptismal vow. About six years later she came to Newell, her parents having moved to Ft. Dodge four years prior. Since that time she has lived in this vicinity, since about 1873. On the 18th day of January 1880, she was married to Wm. Porath, who preceded her into eternity in 1910. Thirty years Mr. and Mrs. Porath permitted to live together and share days of joy and sorrow. Since then she has been, according to 1 Tim. iv, v and vi, a desolate widow. Unto them were born eleven children, eight boys, William, Edward, Charles, Emil, John, Alexander, Harry and Fred and three daughters, Mrs. Ella Witzke, Anna and Amelia, all of whom are living. Although sixty-three years old she enjoyed fair health until about two weeks before her death, when she took sick with pneumonia, of which she had an attack twelve years ago, and pleurisy, reaching the age of 63 years, 9 months and 29 days. Mrs. Porath was a devout Christian, a staunch Lutheran and a charter member of the local congregation. Funeral services were held last Tuesday afternoon Dec. 18, 1917, in the presence of a grief-stricken community, her Pastor, E. T. Lochner, officiating. Surviving her are her eleven children, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one grandchild, Eldon Witzke, three brothers, John Gustav, Chas. J. and Martin O. Johnson, all living In Albert City, and Mrs. Ovren residing in Marathon and a great number of other relatives and friends. To conclude we say of her, God hath made all things well.
