Walters which occurred in the Memorial Hospital in St. Paul on Thursday morning June 24. She passed away at the age of 72 years, death being caused by a blood clot following a severe heart attack. [....funeral detail...] Augusta, daughter of August and Kathryn Nehls, was born near Grand Island in the Prairie Creek community, April 4, 1882. When she was fourteen, the Nehls family moved to the Gage Valley community. Here she grew to womanhood. She attended the Gage Valley school and later high school and the St. Paul Normal School. She taught four years in the Gage Valley community. On February 24, 1901 she was united in marriage to John E. Walters, both having grown up in the Gage Valley community, where they lived until 1923 when they moved to st. Paul. To this union were born six children, namely, Mrs. Paul E. Hill, St. Paul, Nebr, Mrs. R. B. Fisher of Palmer, Thomas C. of Albion, Dale D. of Inglewood, California, Mrs. Herbert Morrison, Lynn, Mass., and Mrs. Elnar Benediktson of Gustine, Calif. Mrs. Walters was a most devoted mother and was happiest when she had her family about her and was doing something for them. She attended the Lutheran Church as a child and later united with the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul in 1922. Mrs. Walters was a student of the Bible and spent much time in reading and study. Her Bible was a daily inspiration and companion to her. She greatly enjoyed both her church work and that of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as chaplain on One Chapter No. 21 Order of Eastern Star for nine consecutive years. Mrs. Walters possessed a kind and loving disposition Her spirit to remain young was remarkable. She loved young people. She always had a kind word, one of encouragement if needed and a ready smile for everyone. She was a loving and helpful neighbor. As her children married, each son-in-law or daughter-in-law was an added child whom she loved greatly, as well the six grandchildren who were a great joy to her. During her illness she inquired often about each. She was preceded in death by her parents and an only sister, the late Mrs. James Robinson. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, John E. Walters, six children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends.
