Read More	The Palmer Journal, January 12, 1939, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney Death Comes to Mrs. Catherine Knoepfel - Catherine Buchfinck was born near Odessa, Russia, February 27, 1865. After an illness of two years she passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Robinson on Thursday evening, January 5, 1939, having reached the age of 73 years, 11 months and five days. In the year of 1874 her parents, with their family immigrated to America and settled near Grand Island, Nebraska, where she resided for many years. During her residence there she was married to August Nehls. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Augusta Walters of St. Paul, Nebraska and Mrs. Louise Robinson of Palmer, Nebraska. Mr. Nehls passed away in 1902. In 1909 she was married to Ludwig Knoepfel, with whom she resided near Ashton, Nebr. and later in Loup City, Nebraska until his death in 1933. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith while a child. She has been a devouted Christian her entire life, proving her faith by her daily deeds of kindness, and helpfulness. She was a loving mother and a faithful friend. Mrs. Knoepfel has for the past two years been in failing health. She has been a patient sufferer, always grateful to those who waited upon her. Her daughters have been in constant attendance and were both with her at the time of her passing. All that loving hands could do was done for her comfort. Besides her two daughters she leaves to mourn, one brother, Chris Buchfinck, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. (poem followed) Funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. Holm pastor of the Lutheran Church in Palmer on the afternoon of January 9. The services were held in the Methodist church in order to accommodate the large congregation. Interment at the Wiegart cemetery North East of Grand Island by the side of her late husband Mr. Nehls. The casket bearers were her grandsons.
