Description	:	Bowman - Augustus 'Gus' Davis, 91, of 148 One Oak Lane, Bowman, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at The Methodist Oaks. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 4307 Charleston Highway, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Jimmy Smoak and the Rev. Kermitt Shrawder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Read More	Bowman - Augustus 'Gus' Davis, 91, of 148 One Oak Lane, Bowman, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at The Methodist Oaks. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 4307 Charleston Highway, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Jimmy Smoak and the Rev. Kermitt Shrawder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Mr. Davis, a retired farmer, was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late William I. and Catherine Funchess Davis. He was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he served in many leadership roles. His community activities included service as a trustee of Bowman Public Schools. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in China, Burma and India. He was a member of Bowman American Legion Post No. 64 for over 60 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Irene Smoak Davis, of the home; a daughter, Kay D. Barton and husband, Julian, of Columbia; four sons, Rob Davis and wife, Joye, of Columbia, Sam Davis and wife, Nann, of Anderson, Jack Davis and wife, Debbie, of Clemson and Mark Davis, of Bowman; two sisters, Mrs. Mary D. Arant, of Bowman and Mrs. Ruth D. Williams, of Orangeburg; and nine grandchildren, Will Davis and wife, Caroline. of Windsor, Vt., Lawton Davis, of Ludwigsburg, Germany, Katie Schumacher and husband, Nick, of Charleston, Elizabeth Rogers and husband Tim, of Charleston, Lyle Davis, of Bowman, Ashlan Davis, of Anderson, John Davis, Landon Davis and Lauren Davis, all of Clemson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence. After the burial, the family will return to Bethel United Methodist Church where they will receive friends in the Davis Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Linda Ashe, 697 Dusty Road, Cope SC 29038 or to a charity of one's choice.
